Duncan Allen

Duncan Allen joined InterSystems in 2002, with responsibility for the development of strategic business opportunities in healthcare, media, retail, and with global system integrators. Building on his degree in engineering from Cambridge University and MSc in electronics, his career spans more than 15 years with leading IT organisations including Digital, Oracle and Mercator. Duncan was responsible for several of InterSystems’ early commercial successes with the Ensemble integration platform and has developed key customer relationships with The Daily Telegraph, Barts and the London NHS Trust, and EDS.


Erik Brandt
Director of Systems Architecture and Consulting

Erik Brandt has worked as the Director of Systems Architecture and Consulting at Digital Technology International (DTI™), Utah, USA, for 18 years. He has provided system architecture consulting for hundreds of media organisations around the world including the Los Angeles Times; Cox Communications and the New York Times Media Group (USA); Asahi Shunbum (Japan); O Globo Media (Brazil); Times of India (India); and La Nacíon (Argentina). His other experience includes work for the U.S Federal Government, Iomega (data storage), and the U.S. Military. Erik is an expert in strategic planning and the use of technology for business transformation.


Lee H. Burstein

With over 30 years’ experience in MultiValue technology, Lee Burstein is InterSystems’ Product Manager for MultiValue and application deployment offerings. He is responsible for enriching the MultiValue offering, helping customers streamline application deployments, and sustaining relationships with the MultiValue community. Prior to joining InterSystems in 2007, Lee was Vice President of Development for an application provider specialising in legal billing software, where he managed all technical aspects of the product. Lee received his undergraduate degree from Pennsylvania State University in Science and Secondary Education and a Master of Science degree in Instructional Technology from Towson University.


David Coates
Chief Integration Architect

David has worked for CSC for over 11 years in senior IT architecture, strategy and interim management roles for a diverse range of clients and industries including FMCG, vehicle rental, office supplies, financial services and energy in addition to healthcare, where he has been involved in CSC's engagement with the National Programme for IT from the outset. In his current role, David is responsible for defining and governing systems integration strategies and architectures for the CSC Alliance as a lead member of the Architecture Design Authority, and was instrumental in selecting InterSystems as a technology partner. David holds a BSc in Engineering Science and a MBA.


Joe DeSantis

Joe DeSantis directs object technology development at InterSystems. Previously Vice President of Research and Development with Liant Software Corporation, Joe was responsible for product vision, architecture and development of object-oriented development tools. Joe also co-founded Oakland Group, Inc., and as Vice President of Research and Development oversaw the architecture, design and development of the C-scape Interface Management System. After studying electrical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Joe began his career as a Senior Engineer at Zoom Telephonics, Inc, where he designed consumer telecommunications devices.


Mike Fuller

Mike Fuller joined InterSystems as Director of Marketing for Northern and Southern Europe, Middle East, Africa and India in 2000 after 20 years in the IT industry, and is based in Eton, UK. The majority of InterSystems business is delivered through innovative software partners and Mike works closely with them, so he has first-hand experience of what does and doesn’t work in the software industry today. His career has spanned the IT spectrum across several industries, with technical, marketing and sales roles in distributors, systems integrators and software houses in the healthcare, finance, retail and government sectors. Notably, Mike started his career at the Hoskyns Group, now part of CAP Gemini, which provided him with a firm grounding in software design, project management, consultancy and customer service.


Joe Gallant
Product Manager

Joe Gallant is a Product Manager in the Strategic Planning department at InterSystems Corporation. Focusing on SQL and object technologies for InterSystems’ flagship Caché product, Joe works closely with customers and InterSystems staff to ensure that Caché provides the performance and functionality that meets the needs of professional application developers. Previously, Joe worked as a Sales Engineer at InterSystems, helping customers develop and deploy Caché-based solutions.


Andy Gorton
Senior Product Consultant
3i Infotech

Andy is a Product Consultant and Product Strategist for 3i Infotech. Amongst his current activities he is evaluating the Management Information reporting area within investment management organisations. Andy began his career in the UK’s Health Service where he was first exposed to InterSystems’ technology through the laboratory administration systems. The move into financial services came in 1990 when Andy joined ACT Financial Systems, working with the investment administration system Quasar, again using InterSystems’ technology. After this he took up roles with private client asset management firms including Bank Insinger de Beaufort in Amsterdam. Andy returned to the UK and joined 3i Infotech in 2008.


Paul Grabscheid

Since 1986, Paul Grabscheid has used his expertise in database and application development tools and technologies in a variety of product planning and marketing roles at InterSystems. Before that, he served as Director of Marketing for Mathematica, a database and 4GL software company, helping to expand the company’s worldwide presence. When Martin Marietta acquired the company, he served as Director of Marketing for that firm’s Information Technology Division, overseeing marketing efforts for a number of system software, application software and computer services product lines.


Ian P Hay

Ian joined BNP Paribas Securities Services in 2008 as a Project Manager and became Head of IT & Change in October 2009. Ian has worked in the UK and overseas in a number of different sectors, including Financial, Pharmaceutical, HealthCare and IT. His Financial Sector background includes stints at the LSE, Euronext Liffe (now NYSE Euronext) and BNP Paribas. Ian believes in using 'best of breed' package software to solve business problems to maximise benefits with a 'fast to market' approach.    


Robert Hickingbotham

Robert Hickingbotham joined InterSystems in 2008 as a Sales Engineer across the telecoms and healthcare sectors, primarily focused upon Caché, Ensemble and DeepSee. An accomplished software developer with over 20 years’ technical experience spanning C++, .Net, C#, J2EE, XML, COBOL and Assembly Language, Robert deals with pre- and post-sales technical consulting for a number of acute and primary care trusts as well as clients across the telecoms sector.


Philip Howard
Research Director

Philip Howard started in the computer industry in 1973 and worked as a systems analyst and programmer, as well as in marketing and product management. When Philip set up his own company in 1992, his first assignment was for Bloor Research (then ButlerBloor). His relationship with Bloor Research continued and he is now Research Director focused on Data Management. In addition to the many research papers he has written for Bloor Research, Philip has also written reports for companies such as CMI and the Financial Times, contributes to industry journals, was previously editor of Application Development News and Operating System News and speaks regularly at events throughout Europe and North America.


Ralph Huthmacher
Technical Architect

Ralph is an expert in using multiple technologies. His career began with a Rolls Royce prize-winning project for his BTech in Software Engineering, followed by an honors degree in Computer Science. He worked as a C developer at Weir Systems, before joining Priam as an M developer, where he was introduced to the pre- Caché world of Mumps. Several years later at Misys, he worked on an R&D basis with Caché Objects in conjunction with Visual Basic. He developed the Rapid Enquiry Module (REM), which gave a visual and interactive perspective to a green-screen world, and he was instrumental in much of the work with QUASAR connectors and the Eclipse Client Reporting suite. At JaywingDMG, Ralph built the award-winning Smartdecisions platform in Caché from scratch, and used Ensemble to develop the critically acclaimed Digital Brain suite. He’s also worked on several .NET projects.


Ben Kaner

Ben is a senior Enterprise Architect who has followed the National Programme from its inception, as Chief Architect in one of the BT bid teams. Since then, his role has included major systems such as those in HMRC, Police, eBorders and Transport. Ben has a broad view of health integration around the world from time as Head of Commercial and Technical for BT Global Health Practice, coupled with a deep knowledge of the challenges of the UK health system from his work as Head of EA for BT LSP. He brings an understanding of how these challenges span commercial, behavioural and technical fields.


Kerry Kirkham
Sales Engineer

Kerry Kirkham works mainly with Caché, Ensemble and DeepSee and manages a number of key accounts across the healthcare, telecoms and government sectors, including Nortel, Grapevine Solutions, St Vincent’s and Mater Hospital in Dublin and DIS, across Ireland. Before joining InterSystems, Kerry worked as a developer for both SMS Ireland and Grapevine Solutions and worked in research in medical physics. Kerry has a BSc in physics from Loughborough University.


Dave Lang

As a stalwart of IM&T in the NHS since 1985, Dave has worked in many care settings, including Primary, Secondary, Community and Mental Health. After a stint at a Calderdale & Kirklees Health Authority in 2000, Dave was part of the Management Team responsible for setting up The Health Informatics Service. More recently he has spent 12 months as acting CIO at Barnsley NHS Hospitals Trust and is currently seconded to the Yorkshire and Humber SHA as Assistant CIO – Specialist Programmes. During his career, Dave has delivered many IM&T projects and is passionate about unlocking the rich sources of data contained in systems to make it available to service users and service providers in order to support the delivery of Healthcare.


Peter Lowndes
Managing Director
Safewire Ltd.

Armed with an MA from Wadham College, Oxford, Peter worked in various management roles in industry and then in IT. A director of a successful Mail Order company for several years, in 2003 he combined his business knowledge with InterSystems technology to create the software company Safewire. With a smile he says “It’s the best job ever, helping others with the problems I used to struggle with”. Peter lives in the Peak District, relaxes and annoys others by playing the guitar.


Dr Mark Massias

Dr Mark Massias is a Senior Sales Engineer at InterSystems in the UK. Mark has been working at InterSystems since 2002 and has been involved in helping InterSystems’ telecoms customers to develop solutions based on InterSystems’ database and integration technology. This includes applications delivering Operational Support Systems (OSS), mobile fraud detection and telecoms billing. Mark works specifically in the healthcare and telecoms sectors, and has worked extensively with InterSystems’ healthcare customers in a variety of areas including spine integration.


Robert Nagle
VP of Software Development
InterSystems

Robert Nagle directs systems software activities at InterSystems. Prior to joining the company, he spent five years at Harvard University doing research in molecular modelling and high-performance computing. Previously, he was general manager and vice president of Molecular Simulations Inc. with P&L responsibility for the life sciences market and technical responsibility for research and development. He has also held technical or senior management positions at Automatix, Cognition, and Computervision. Robert has a Master's degree in Mathematics from Carnegie Mellon University and a Master's degree in Mathematical Physics from University College Cork.



Keith Naylor
NHS Connecting for Health

Keith Naylor is currently leading the NHS Interoperability Team at the Department of Health Informatics Department Technology Office. He has over 24 years’ experience of developing information systems for the NHS and has specialised in the field of interoperability, originally with Trent Regional Health Authority. Several years working for major players in the NHS IT vendor community gives Keith a good understanding of the needs of both the NHS and industry. Keith is also a member of the board for HL7-UK, being a leading member for many years.


Louise Parberry
Sales Engineer

Louise Parberry has been working for InterSystems for 11 years. Previously, she worked for Micronetics in a similar role and in the retail sector as an application programmer, and has spent many years in the fields of scientific computing and numerical analysis. Her specialisms include object and web development, incorporating CSP, XML, SVG and bitmap indexing. On the application side she is regularly involved in MSM and relational database conversions. Louise also assists InterSystems’ customers with SQL optimisation and benchmarking. On the system side she advises on large server configuration, performance testing and disaster recovery.


Alan Paterson
Operations Director

Alan leads JaywingDMG's technical services and project management teams and is a board member with accountability for JaywingDMG's technology. He joined the company in 2001 and is expert in large infrastructure changes, systems integration and supporting business processes across the areas of marketing, credit risk and call centres. Alan has managed numerous development and implementation projects for data warehouses and campaign management systems across various industries, majoring on Financial Services, Utilities and the Public Sector. He has worked with or for organisations such as Post Office Financial Services, Egg, First Direct, EDS and Ministry of Defence.


Jon Payne
Manager, Sales Engineering

Jon Payne has over 30 years’ experience building and delivering software in a variety of technologies. He joined InterSystems in 2002, and now manages the UK Sales engineering team, predominantly working in the healthcare sector. Jon has strong integration architecture skills, has played a key role in securing the technical side of the TIE and Datacentre deals with CSC and now manages this account, focusing on the large Ensemble projects they are currently undertaking in the Midlands and the North of England. Jon represents InterSystems at a number of healthcare organisations and initiatives. These include HL7 – a not-for-profit organisation for the development of international healthcare standards and IHE – an initiative by healthcare professionals and industry to improve computer systems in health share information.


Alex Schaefer
Sales Engineer

Alex Schaefer joined InterSystems in May 2002 working as an integration specialist within the healthcare integration team. In her role as a Sales Engineer, she is accountable for pre-sales and proof-of-concept trials. Projects she has worked on include the roll out of the InterSystems Ensemble rapid integration platform for the North, Midlands and East of England NHS Trusts (implemented by CSC), as part of the NHS National Programme for IT (NPfIT). More recently, she worked on NHS Lothian’s implementation of InterSystems Ensemble and the trust’s integration of InterSystems TrakCare. Alex has a Masters in Information Systems from Darmstadt Technical University, Germany.


George Sirius

George was born in Athens, Greece, but moved to London at an early age where he studied music and cognitive psychology. Apart from an interval during which the Greek army gave him a compulsory 'holiday' with the Green Berets, he spent years studying and researching the human brain, publishing articles in various prestigious scientific journals. While conducting research into the interaction between people and technology in the workplace, George realised there was a serious gap between event planners and event management technology. This inspired him to launch Eventsforce in 2004, simply to “make event organisers' lives better.”


Maxim Vershinin
Sales Engineer

Maxim Vershinin joined InterSystems in 2007 and supports the technical pre-sales of Caché and Ensemble. He works primarily in the financial sector, managing a number of financial accounts, including 3i Infotech, Adam & Co and Legal & General. After obtaining a PhD in computer science and a Masters in economics, Maxim worked as a J2EE team leader and project manager at TogetherSoft (later Borland). He then became a technical lead at Sun Microsystems and an application architect at RBS where he developed his expertise in J2EE, Java, SOA, project management and architecture.


James Woudhuysen 
Professor of Forecasting and Innovation 
De Montfort University

Aside from his many other roles, James Woudhuysen is Professor of Forecasting and Innovation at De Montfort University. Originally head of research at the design practice Fitch, James went on to lead IT consulting at The Henley Centre for Forecasting and manage worldwide market intelligence for Philips consumer electronics. He broadcasts about the future of work and the environment, and sits on the editorial board of the Journal of Consumer Behaviour. With a knack for registering trends well before others, James shows how future trends can inform decisions on strategy, research and development, innovation, marketing and design. He offers a witty but deadly serious alternative to myths about almost everything – from human resources to energy policy.
